The Trident Insurance Agency was founded by Mel Budnick in 1969. Mel was born and raised in The Bronks, New York and moved to California in 1935 at the age of 13. After graduating from Venice High school he enrolled in the Navy. After serving his country he was honorably discharged and went on to attend the USC. After getting married and starting a family, he set out to create a stable business that would ensure financial security for his 3 children. His passion for sailing and love for the ocean led him to name his insurance agency Trident after the Greek mythological God of the ocean Neptune. The Trident staff that Neptune held was made to represent: Insurance, Financial Planning and Real Estate. Debra, the eldest of his 3 children came to Trident in 1984 and bought the agency from her father when he decided to retire. Debra's daughters have both worked for Trident and currently sister Lori has rejoined the business.

After graduating from University of Southern California and finishing his term in the US Navy, he set out to create a stable family business that would ensure financial security for his 3 children. I am the oldest of my siblings and took the opportunity to work with my father in 1985. This was the best decision I ever made because it not only allowed me to build a professional foundation for myself and become an expert in the insurance industry, but I was able to share memorable moments with my father that I will cherish forever.
