Founded by Amos A. Phelps who was later joined in 1937 by his son Edward J. Phelps, the business continued to evolve when Edward's son Richard J. Phelps came to work with him in 1962. In 1970, having outgrown the original location, the agency moved to it's current location on 27 Market Street in Rockland. The tradition has continued with Kim Phelps-Nelson, CIC coming aboard in 1993 and her brother Jeff Phelps, CIC in 2001 both of whom began their careers working for local insurance carriers.Under their direction the agency has continued to grow through marketing strategy and acquisition, yet has managed to maintain the same core principles of honesty, integrity and personal local service that have been the cornerstones of success for Phelps Insurance.
