The Durn & Bieler Insurance Agency, an independent and Erie Insurance Agent, was founded in the late 1930s by Frederick W. Beiler, whose sons, Frederick J. and Robert, later became part of the business. Frederick W. Bieler died in 1968, after which his son, Frederick, took over the business. Frederick ran the agency until 1988, when Robert Durn bought him out. Eleven years later, the Commonwealth Insurance Group acquired Durn & Bieler.
