In 1918, Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc was founded by W. G. Garrett, Jr. & L. D. Garrett. In 1932 the Garrett brothers hired their nephew R. L. Schmerbeck, Jr. R. L. was hired to operate the agency on a full time basis. Following WWII a partnership was formed between the Garrett brothers and R. L. Schmerbeck, Jr. In 1966 R. L. Schmerbeck, III joined the agency. On January 1, 1997, a LLC was formed at Garrett Insurance Agency. Mr. R. L. Schmerbeck, III became the president of the LLC and Stephen R. Schmerbeck, CIC became the secretary/treasurer of the LLC. In 2003, Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc changed from a LLC to a corporation. January 1, 2010, Stephen R Schmerbeck, CIC purchased all shared owned by R. L. Schmerbeck, III and became sole owner of Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc. April 1, 2013, Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc. acquired Texas Hills Insurance Agency, Ltd. On 01/01/2015 Garrett Insurance Agency, Inc acquired Frantzen, Kaderli & Klier in Fredericksburg, TX.
